This is not the recommended strategy based on your chosen target audience. However, if you would like to use this strategy, here are some suggestions.

The recommended tone of your data story will be:

  • Calm, nonreactive
  • Establish a shared language with those involved in the decision-making from the outset.
  • Focus on winning over the voting majority. Stay the course. This may require consistent reinforcing of message.


Tactics


The recommended tactic of your data story will be:

  • Connect goals with community/patron needs.
    *It's not personal. It's not "Librarian XYZ'" agenda, but a response to a real need.​
  • Research counterarguments/ popular misinformation, and provide evidence/stories that address misconceptions.
  • Ask questions: 
    • Why is this happening?
    • Why has this issue been chosen?
    • What are our goals? 


Evidence type


The recommended evidence type of your data story will be:

  • local user surveys 
  • other evidence of existing strengths  
  • Comparative data 
    •(PLS, Benchmark, Project Outcome, state data)
